Creating a Podcast for Horsewomen Can be a Challenge to this Horsewoman!

A quick overview of the podcast so far...

TLDR: Check out the links to listen or watch the episodes.

Just about two weeks ago I launched my podcast for horsewomen: Find Yourself, on a Horse. It’s been a fun, exciting, (and somewhat scary) experience!

It’s really taking me out of my comfort zone. I’m good at helping women develop a toolkit to solve challenges with their horses. I taught “live” for decades, and I’m now coaching and running courses online - but for some reason, sitting in my studio with my microphone and camera focused on me is daunting.

So, what I’ve done is created slides to go with each episode, and put the video on YouTube. It takes away the stress of having to be on camera for the full episode, but still makes me stretch a bit. I’ll gradually add my face to the mix, but for now, you get slides :-)

My first couple of episodes covered my coaching framework, and how horses thought process differed from humans. My mission is to transform women’s relationships with their horses and, ultimately, themselves one breath at a time. I love empowering women in the barn & beyond, so I’m hoping the podcast takes off and helps horsewomen all around the world!

When I was thinking about all of the components of my coaching framework and trying to distill them into something that was easy to remember, I created the acronym STABLE: Successful Transformation and Balanced Life Experience.

Successful: Success is a goal to which most of us aspire, but the definition isn’t the same for any 2 people. To attain success, you first have to know what success is, have to know what it feels like. I don’t define success for my students and clients - I just help them assemble the toolkit they need to create to their own version of success.

Transformation: Transformation is often just what our soul is looking for when we experience a vague, nagging dissatisfaction or discomfort... At some level, we’re not happy with what’s going on with our lives, and the gap between where we are and where we want to be is like having a pebble in your shoe.. it annoys you to the point that you finally decide to do something about it. That decision is the beginning of your transformation.

The problem arises when we simply allow our transformations to happen to us rather than being intentional about their creation and having them happen from us. With intention, we can create a transformation that brings us closer to our goals.

And remember - transformation rarely happens overnight. It takes work, tenacity, focus, and occasionally some Pixie Dust. There are days (and sometimes weeks and months) when it feels like no progress is being made. Then one day, you look back and realize the work you’ve been putting in has finally started to pay off!

The 5 Steps of Transformation

Step 1 - Decide what results you want

Step 2 - Evaluate where you are right now

Step 3 - Reverse engineer a plan to get you to your goal.

Step 4 - Get to work on that plan!

Step 5 - Review and Revise

Step 1. Decide what results you want. The emphasis here is to pick results that are important to YOU.

Instead of focusing on the tiny details, I encourage clients to think about the overall feeling they want to experience in their lives. Knowing how we want our lives to feel not only gives us a slightly broader target but also gives us something we can work toward by incorporating experiences that bring that feeling into our life right now.

Step 2: Evaluate where you are right now. Just be very realistic about your starting point. Don’t shrink your dream, (I can’t stress this enough), but be ready to invest the time it takes to achieve it.

Step 3.Reverse-engineer a plan to get you to your goal. I

If you’re a novice rider, who wants to be an international caliber show jumper, count backward - what do you need to do before your 6’ fences? You jump 4’ fences. And before that, t 3’6”, and before that, 2’9”… And before that - you need to learn how to jump cross-rails, and before that, you need to solidify your seat and position on the flat.

Step 4. Get to work! - Plan your work and then make sure you work your plan!

Step 5. Review and revise. Sometimes you need to adjust your course.

Say you tweaked your back and missed riding for a week, or perhaps the Pilates routine is so effective, your instructor says your strength and balance are doing really well, and you’re ready to move up a step a few weeks ahead of schedule.

It’s helpful to re-evaluate on a regular basis - don’t leave things too long and discover that you’re way off course - you don’t want to lose precious months. By the same token, keep strengthening that patience muscle - remember - this work doesn’t happen overnight!

The pursuit of “life balance” can become a slippery slope. Just like success, life balance means different things to different people.

Instead of “Life Balance,” I prefer “Balancing Life Experience”. This is about looking at the bigger picture, as in - how does the overall picture feel to you?

If you’re facing a challenging situation, think through your options, and see how the thought of each of them makes you feel. Go with your gut. How does this decision make you feel? How do you think you might feel a year from now if you go with plan A? How about plan B?

My hope is that this STABLE framework is something that will help you live your best horsey life, in the barn, and beyond! This is your life, my friends; find a way to make it work FOR you!

Until next time!

Last week's rain and warmer temperatures deserted us yesterday in favor of some light snow,❄️ wind, and high temps in the 40s. It. Was. Not. Pleasant! I guess considering it's nearly the end of November, I can't really complain! I'm having a great time writing weekly posts for Aging Horsewomen International over on Facebook. The longer versions are on my blog, as usual. Information about my new course and how to become a beta tester will be in next week's newsletter - you'll be able to take...

August23, 2023 Late summer changes & challenges. For those of you who stuck with my long email last week - thank you! This week's will be much shorter, I promise. 😁 The days are also getting shorter, and, in contrast to the spring shedding season which heralds warmer weather, late summer's shed is a whole different feeling. Having grown up in CT, fall was not my favorite time of year, because it ushered in a long, cold, and dark winter. Not Alaska-strength long, cold, and dark, but dark...
